The chairman of the collective farm, Aneykey Luzgin, is willing to do anything to show off in front of the authorities. He plans to exceed the upcoming quota, ignoring the fact that this will harm his fellow villagers. However, the collective farmers have already realized that the command-administrative system is rapidly becoming a thing of the past, and they decide to put the arrogant chairman in his place.
